Krylov Porfiry is russian and soviet painter and graphic. Member of a unique art trio Kukryniksy (together with Mikhail Kupriyanov and Nickolay Sokolov) – a significant event of Socrealism.

Krylov’s chamber landscapes and still-life follow the traditions of “Russian impressionism” which originate from the art of Isaak Levitan and Konstantin Korovin.
Pictures of Krylov are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery
(Moscow), State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), Porfiry Krylov’s Museum in Tula and in Ufizzi Gallery in Florence.

Porfiry Nikitich Krylov was born in 1902 to a family of factory’s workers. When Porfiry was 11 years old, his mother, two brothers and her sister, they died from the disease. He finished primary school; for some years he worked in the tool workshop at the ammunition factory. At the same time he studied in the art studio at the factory under the guidance of G. M. Shegal.
He attended the Higher State Artistic and Technical Workshops (VKhUTEMAS) in Moscow (1921–1928), studied under A. A. Osmerkin, A. V. Shevchenko, and P. P. Konchalovsky.

Since 1924 he was a member of the famous creative group "KUKRYNIKSY" together with M. Kupriyanov and M. Sokolov, with whom he created several thousand caricatures, hundreds of posters. Their pseudonym “Kukryniksy” is made up of the first syllables of their names. Three artists worked by collective creativity (each also worked individually – on portraits and landscapes). The greatest popularity brought them numerous masterfully executed caricatures and cartoons, as well as book illustrations created in the typical style of caricature.

They worked for the newspapers Komsomolskaya Pravda (“Komsomol Truth”), Literaturnaya Gazeta (“Literary Newspaper”), Pravda (“Truth”), Krokodil (“Crocodile”), Smekhach (“Laugher”), Smena (“Shift”), in the years of the Great Patriotic War – in Okna TASS “Windows of TASS (the Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union). During the Great Patriotic War, the Kukryniksy triumvirate fought the enemy with their own weapons of trenchant political caricature and posters.

KUKRYNIKSY, the trio of graphic artists (KUpriyanov, KRYlov, NIkolai Sokolov) created paintings and illustrations to many works by M. de Cervantes, Saltykov-Shchedrin, A. Chekhov, M. Gorky, MI. Ilf and E. Petrov and M. A. Sholokhov.

Porfiry Krylov also was involved in easel painting and graphic art (individually).
Porfiry Krylov was created and a lot of
independent work, having intimate in nature. Porfiry wrote a lot in the
open air.
He painted landscapes, portraits, still lifes. Krylov worked in Yasnaya Polyana, Polenovo in Tula province, at the Academy dacha in Tver province, in Abramtsevo, in the Crimea, in the Caucasus. Krylov's landscapes are a Prime example of the artist's deep sense of nature.
He visited Italy, Bulgaria and France.
